Winter Wonderland: A Green Event on a Small Budget
There is snow on the ground, my street is it's own Winter Wonderland. As I (attempt to) run in the morning I can't help but notice all the beautiful trees, stripped of their shiny balls and twinkling lights, sitting on the curb awaiting pick-up. Is this time of economic troubles and green-mindedness I began to wonder what these trees could be used for. And, since nobody likes a party more than me, I thought about using them to create a Winter Wonderland. As my mind races much faster than my feet, I remembered seeing pictures of a party that my Italian in-laws had back in the 40s. I'm not certain that their Italian-ness had anything to do with it, but they filled their basement with trees. And it was beautiful. They had 9 children, most of them were teenagers at the time, and their father created this space for their party. But I never thought to ask, did he do this a week or two after Christmas? I hope so, because the trees are plentiful and free. Now, I am always concerned that an event be mission-focused so start thinking about how you could use this idea for next January. How could this beautiful wintery scene tie in with your work? My first thought was a beautiful evening event. Then I thought about what surprises could be hanging on the trees. Next, I recalled the year I decorated our tree with postcards just because we had a lot and loved them. That led to photographs, if you just attached a pretty ribbon and tied them on - what a wonderful vision and conversation piece! This would even work as a walkway, lined with trees, leading into the room for an event, say, an Ask Event (check the
