Go Team! Building Nonprofit Committees

A team or committee working together can be very powerful. Are you familiar with the great quote from the anthropologist Margaret Mead? “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” That says a lot about the power of people coming together.

Do you have great committees working to make your organization grow?
Winning teams are created by bringing the right mix of people together with a clear task. A winning group includes representatives of several constituencies. Magic doesn’t always happen, but often it does.

Good committees:

  1. Are made up of a diverse group of people
  2. Have clear goals
  3. Have good leadership
  4. Value the contribution of each member

Good members:

  1. Understand their role
  2. Fully participate
  3. Feel valued
  4. Communicate openly
  5. Are interested in working to consensus
