Step Six: Thank



You are at the last of 6 lessons in the short course on Volunteer Management - Step Six: Thank. Links to the other five are at the bottom of the page.

Just one word. There are endless ways to show appreciation and many of them should be part of your repertoire. The easiest, of course, is just to say “thanks” whenever you have the opportunity.

Thank yous get results. Even very highly motivated volunteers will be more responsive if you treat them well and show them how much their work is appreciated.

    Ask – ask them to serve, ask for feedback, ask their opinions, ask for more

    State – state your needs and expectations clearly, be sure they are understood

    Listen – really listen when they speak, let them know you are interested

    Inspire – be the person who inspires them by your work, your creativity and your enthusiasm

    Include – include them in decisions that will affect them, invite them to serve on Teams
