Creativity: Your Imagination Pays Off

Creativity is free! It’s fun! And there's is plenty of it around you. The challenge is to continually seek out innovation, inspiration and originality. Yes, you are creative but you may get in a rut and do the same old thing or you're in a hurry and forget to ask for (or listen to) new ideas - that includes asking yourself: "What else could we do?"

Be open to new ideas and you will find them!

This is a major theme for Nonprofit Champions. And, lucky for all of us, the more we use our creative brain the better it works for us.

Brainstorming is a great tool to get the juices flowing. Gather a group and give it a try. The simple rules are:

1. State what it is you want to explore.

2. Go for quantity. Every idea is good and should be recorded.

3. No negative comments (“yes, but” is a negative comment)

Here’s a quick exercise to get you started, kind of a personal brainstorming:

Make a list of alternate ways to start your day tomorrow. Have some fun with it. Or pick a new color scheme for your office or bedroom, pick up tons of paint colors at the hardware or paint store, browse some magazines for ideas and go a little crazy.
